Christoffer Schunk is an artist based in Los Angeles. His portfolio vacillates between audio and theater, resulting in intricately staged productions, films, and sound art. His work has been featured nationally and internationally at SEAMUS, MUSLAB, the Ars Electronica Forum Wallis Festival, the Brooklyn Film Festival, Sound Thought Festival, the Iron Composer Competition, REDCAT, Human Resources LA, the wulf and on I Care If You Listen, and has been performed by Conceptual Soundproductions Budapest, Santa Clarita Master Chorale, the CalArts New Century Players, Black House Collective, and the UC Santa Barbara Symphony Orchestra. As a film composer, Schunk's scores have premiered in the Highland Park Film Festival, Indie Memphis Film Festival, Brooklyn Film Festival, the Santa Barbara Digital Film Festival, the Reel Loud Film Festival, and the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Schunk is as versatile an instrumentalist as he is a composer. He was the pianist, celesta player, and didgeridoo player in the premier of Anne LeBaron’s opera Crescent City; he performed on accordion and setar in the John Cage Centenary Festival at REDCAT; he played guitar, ukulele, accordion, and was the singer-songwriter for the folk band Awkward Starfish; he was a composer and keyboardist for the experimental jazz quintet Jazzerection; he produces electronic dance music; and he continually performs in a variety of new chamber works throughout California.

 

Schunk holds an MFA Performer-Composer degree from the California Institute of the Arts where he studied under composers Anne LeBaron, Michael Pisaro, Wolfgang von Schweinitz, Vinny Golia and pianist Vicki Ray. He earned a BA in composition from UC Santa Barbara under the direction of Jeremy Haladyna.
